Eskdale, The Lake District
Dates of operation: 1950 – present
Number of young people through its doors: approximately 175,000
Eskdale is Outward Bound’s second ever centre operating as a mountain school when it first opened. The centre is situated in the picturesque valley of the River Esk, in the remote high fells of England’s western Lake District. Previously a country retreat built in 1896, Eskdale is set in 64 acres of woodland with its own tarn, Japanese gardens and bunkhouse. It enjoys fine views over the central Lakeland fells, not far from the coast.
